Swim
Old Georgetown Club is happy to offer a competitive summer swim team to its members. Our team's mission is to provide a fun, family-oriented and positive swimming experience for our members. This environment strives to promote lasting friendships, competitive spirit, and the joy of attaining one's personal best. The OGC Swim Team participates in the Montgomery County Swim League (MCSL) swim meets on Saturday mornings as well as friendly meets with neighboring pools on Wednesday evenings during the months of June and July.
OGC swim team is only for members of OGC. Please complete pool registration before attempting to register for swim and dive teams.

Volunteer Requirements
Summer swim and dive teams are run by volunteers. Meets and events need anywhere from 2 - 40 people to operate. If your child is participating in a meet, it is expected that your family will volunteer at that meet. Please sign up early and be willing to help out. It's fun and easy - some jobs required specific training and you will need to be certified in the off-season but most jobs do not require any previous experience with swimming or diving. Don't worry we'll train you! There are a few jobs available for older siblings who can earn SSL hours and it's fine if nannies or grandparents help out too.
Not comfortable being on deck this summer? No Problem -- there are lots of jobs that can be done "off the deck" and we can work with your family to make sure your obligations are met.
Thanks in advance for all you do to help make our swim and dive teams!
Coaches' Approach to Meet Lineups: Strategy and Swimmer Development
B Meet Lineups: Focus on Development and Personal Goals
For B Meets, our primary goal is to provide opportunities for swimmers to develop and achieve personal bests. We typically place swimmers in events where they are legally qualified and have not yet scored points in A Meets. This allows them to gain experience and work on specific skills in a less competitive environment.
Swimmer Input: If your swimmer has a specific event they would like to swim in a B Meet, please make sure to include it in the notes section when signing up. We review all notes and take these requests into consideration when finalizing the lineup.
A Meets, Relay Carnival, and Divisional Lineups: Maximizing Team Points
For A Meets, Relay Carnival, and Divisional meets, our strategy shifts to maximizing our team's overall points. This means that while we value individual preferences, the coaches will always prioritize what is best for the team's success. As a result, swimmers may not always swim their preferred events, but rather the events where we believe they can contribute the most to the team's score.
Data-Driven Decisions: When creating lineups for these key meets, we undertake a comprehensive review process. We analyze not only our team's data, but also data from opposing teams from both this summer and last summer. This data includes:
- Times: A crucial factor in assessing performance and potential matchups.
- Practice Observations: We carefully consider what we see in practice, including:
- Starts: Explosiveness and efficiency off the wall.
- Finishes: Strong and accurate touches at the wall.
- Consistencies: The ability to maintain pace and form throughout an event.
- Turns: Quick and effective transitions at the wall.
- Race Drive: A swimmer's competitive spirit and their determination to push themselves during races.
Open Communication: Your Questions Answered
At the end of the day, lineup decisions are at the coaches' discretion. However, we strongly encourage open communication with our coaching staff.
If you ever have a specific question about lineup decisions or your swimmer's events, please have your swimmer come to us first to clarify. This helps them learn to advocate for themselves. If there are still questions after that, a parent is welcome to speak with us with an open mind. We're committed to doing our best to answer your questions and provide clarity on our decision-making process.
